The Young Ambassadors for Peace (YAP) program brings together fractured communities, facilitating reconciliation at a grassroots level both within and between communities through Asia and the Pacific. The programs operate through local coordinators and volunteers who work to create harmony within communities, allowing development work to be more effective and beneficial for the entire community.
Often one of the major things standing in the way of effective development is ongoing conflict both between and within communities. The People for Peace Appeal raises funds for the YAP program so that it can continue operating and growing, allowing conflict to be overcome.
The YAP program currently operates in Ambon, Burma, Solomon Islands, North East India and the Philippines. As these programs are funded through donations, they can only continue and grow with your generous support.
The funds raised provide allowances for local and national coordinators, help pay for travel expenses for coordinators to attend mediation sessions, and fund the organization and hosting of workshops.
Joy Balazo, Associate Director of UnitingWorld’s Peacemaking Programs has observed the power of peace resulting from YAP programs through Asia and the Pacific. “With conflict resolution in place, minority groups have been able to return to their homelands, community development has recommenced and long time enemies have embarked in lifelong friendships,” said Joy.
All donations towards the People for Peace Appeal are warmly welcomed, and will go a long way towards bridging differences between communities and affecting long term change within communities.
