UnitingWorld is relieved to report that all is safe and well in Vanuatu, following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck the Pacific nation yesterday at approximately 4.30 pm.
The undersea quake is reported to have shaken buildings for 15 seconds in the capital city of Port Vila, though no significant damage has been reported.
According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre, a 23 centimetre tsunami hit the capital city of Port Vila shortly following the quake.
The Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu, a Church Partner of UnitingWorld, said that the quake was a shock for local residents, and people residing in coastal areas quickly moved to higher ground as a precaution.
No loss of life or injury has been reported.
