New Relief and Development project tackles HIV/AIDS in Zimbabwe

The Relief and Development Unit of UnitingWorld this week commences funding for a new development project in Gutsa-Warambwa, Zimbabwe.

13-Aug-09 097_webThe Gutsa-Marambwa region has more than 300 HIV/AIDS orphans who are living with older siblings or other relatives. The whole community is struggling to provide care for these orphans.

UnitingWorld is working in partnership with the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe and their development arm, Methodist Development and Relief Agency (MeDRA), to address this problem.

The new project funds a range of livelihood activities that will bring a source of income into the community. This income will enable the families who are struggling by assisting to feed, clothe and educate these children.

This also allows them to stay in their family homes where they can receive emotional support. Additionally, income levels to these homes will increase by establishing income generating projects and providing skills training.
