Take Action Locally for Global Justice this Federal Election

With the Federal Election fast approaching, UnitingWorld encourages Uniting Church members throughout Australia to take action in their local communities to campaign for poverty alleviation, for justice for developing countries that struggle to adapt to the negative impacts of climate change and for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

UnitingWorld is encouraging people to be a catalyst for policy change to halve poverty by 2015 by engaging their local communities and electoral candidates in issues surrounding sustainable poverty alleviation.

Individuals can take local action for global justice this election by writing letters to and visiting their sitting MPs and other candidates to inform them of your views and educate them on global poverty.

Electorate Forums, ideally with both current local MP and candidates from other major parties in your electorate, are also an effective way to act locally for global justice.

Forums are an opportunity to educate your local MP and the community about extreme poverty, the effects of climate change on people who are poor and the Millennium Development Goals.

Our Election 2010 page has links to downloadable resources and further information that aims to inform Uniting Church members and highlight the role we play, as Christians in Australia, to stand with people who are marginalised and disadvantaged.
