Freedom from Poverty in West Timor, Bali and Zimbabwe

EOFY Matching Grant Appeal 2017

In West Timor, Bali and Zimbabwe, UnitingWorld is supporting local people to access low interest loans, business training and intensive community support. Families are able to generate an income with dignity, educate their children and to reinvest in their local community so that the whole nation thrives.

Right now, your gift made before June 30 will be combined with Australian government funding and have up to six times the impact for capable, creative people working to free themselves from poverty. (How?)

UW_Generic Web Button_230x80_RedIn West Timor, where most people live on less than $2 a day, the Church is already working alongside 35,000 people to build lives free of poverty. Local people have the solutions. They just need the resources.

$30 provides chickens for a family to breed in Zimbabwe

$125 provides two piglets to help a family increase income from pig keeping in Bali

$200 beats poverty through a low interest loan to start a roadside business selling clothes or food in West Timor

$500 provides educational assistance for families in West Timor

Betcy, who is almost blind in both eyes, used a loan and business advice from a UnitingWorld partner to begin a used clothing business.

“I earned $5 profit a day from the new business and it allowed us to build a home. We bought a water tank so when the water from the tap is dirty, we can still safely drink. My children are all dry and have somewhere to study. My work gives me the security and hope I need to plan for the future.” Read more of Betcy’s story
