As part of a new strategic direction, UnitingWorld is committed to connecting church communities and people worldwide to partner in God’s mission.

To fulfil this promise, we are facilitating meaningful global relationships by empowering Australian communities to form effective partnerships with our international partner churches.

We empower both Australian church communities and our international partners to engage in meaningful relationships by providing ongoing education and support on partnership.

Partnerships facilitated by UnitingWorld are characterised by our values of:

  • Commitment – Trusted friends for the long term
  • Mutual respect – Dedication to understanding, listening to, and serving our overseas partners
  • People with global radars – Aware and sensitive to global issues, particularly as they affect out overseas partners
  • Partnership
  • Loyalty
  • Willingness to give, receive, be challenged and changed

Newlife Uniting Church, located in Robina, Queensland, are in active partnership with the United Church in Solomon Islands, facilitated by Uniting World.

“The great gift in our partnership with the United Church in Solomon Islands is being inspired people who are so resource poor by comparison but so rich in God in the way they live out their faith 24/7,” said Stuart Cameron.

Becoming an Australian Partner Church

The partnerships facilitated by UnitingWorld between Australian church communities and our partner churches can work on a number of different levels. These include:

1. Connect

Australian Church communities that work on the Connect level receive regular information from UnitingWorld and their partner about the issues they face. This could include the effects of climate change, trade justice, the effects of HIV/AIDS, or inter-faith relations.

This level of commitment involves praying for your partner and financially supporting a community project operated by the church partner. This involves nominating several strong and commitment members of your congregation to maintain communication with your partner and actively advocate for their well being.

2. Collaborate

Depending on the capacity of your church, this level of commitment gives Australian church communities the opportunity to host guests from a church partner for a number of weeks or months. You can also raise funds or sponsor a project run by the partner church in their country and over time with good practice be part of the project development.

A small group of strong and committed members of the church community are elected to drive this process and coordinate the relationship through and with UnitingWorld.

There are also opportunities for an individual or group from your congregation to visit the partner church to engage in good development and effective partnership. UnitingWorld works with church communities to bring about a greater awareness about meaningful global partnerships.

UnitingWorld supports these commitments by providing regular newsletters and updates about the partner church on issues surrounding good development country and partner information, prayer points, and project updates. We will also provide educational material about partnership, good development, and effective mission to help build lasting and meaningful relationships.
