Evangelical Christian Church in Minahasa

The Evangelical Christian Church in Minahasa is based in the North Sulawesi province in Indonesia. By 1880, 80% of the Minahasa population were Christian as a result of the Dutch missionaries who worked in the province. The church became independent in 1934 and took on its current name. The church stresses the importance of forming its own theology and cooperating sensibly with other religious groups.

The Evangelical Christian Church in Minahasa has 730,000 members, with 1,500 pastors and 816 congregations. The church runs schools from kindergarten to secondary, as well as vocational training. It also runs a university with a school of theology. The church also provides educational scholarships for students to continue their studies.

The Evangelical Christian Church in Minahasa is also responsible for several hospitals, maternity clinics and family planning clinics. The church conducts lay training courses based on social justice and education. The church has many members who live in other parts of Indonesia, but it maintains a policy of not forming congregations outside of Minahasa.
