Inside a Peacemaking workshop
Over the past ten years nearly 100 YAP Workshops have been held in conflict hot-spots, including Burma, Mindanao (Philippines), Papua New Guinea (Tari), Bougainville, Solomon Islands, North E ast India and Sri Lanka.
The YAP workshop is an intensive, live-in, experiential process that extends between six to eight days. The Workshop brings together representatives of warring parties and confronts them with their past actions and prejudices, demonstrates the debilitating impacts of power and discrimination, and teaches how to respond to conflict by negotiation and peaceful means, rather than by force. The ongoing mentoring by the local YAP team ensures that the new peacemakers receive support and advice after they return to their communities and start to apply their new-found skills.
