Soomee Kim is a UnitingWorld volunteer from Mount Waverly, near Melbourne in Victoria. She has extensive education in textile design, dpecialising in felt art. As a practicing artist, Soomee has held exhibitions and won numerous awards both in Australia and South Korea.

Soomee first visited Ulaanbaatar University, Mongolia, in 2007 as a guest lecturer. She discovered that despite the supply of natural resources, the Mongolian textile inductry was vastly underdeveloped. After receiving an invitation from the university, Soomee agreed to establish a textiles design course at the university.

For the next ten years, Soomee will act as visiting professor for two month each semester teaching textile design, felting, tapestry, fabric dying and printing.

Soomee’s extensive experience and commitment to this long term placement will be an enormous asset to Ulaanbaatar University.
