Types of Opportunities Available

There are different types of opportunities available if you’re interested in an Experience placement. Read on to learn about short term placements, GAP Year and youth placements, and placements for retirees.

Short Term Placements

Short term Volunteers opportunities (4-8 weeks)

At UnitingWorld, we understand that not everyone can take 12 months off to share their gifts and talents in a cross cultural setting.

The good news is, for people who might want to use their annual leave or Long Service Leave in a way that contributes to God’s mission in the world and changes lives forever, there are now opportunities available for you.

These unique placements are specifically designed to provide resources needed by our global church partners as well as provide an educational experience for the volunteer in terms of gaining a better understanding of what is good international relief and development practice.

Short term placements are available in relief and development projects in Tonga, Africa and Indonesia.

These placements are varied and can be developed to use your own particular skills and gifts. Some require formal qualifications, but most just require an open mind, a generous spirit and a desire to contribute, learn and grow.

GAP Year and Youth Placements

Want to learn from people who look at life in a different way? Want to really do something that makes a difference? Want to be part of how the UCA connects communities for life?

Why not take some time out to be connected with one of our UCA global church partners as a UnitingWorld Experience volunteer?

We have placements that work well for young adults who want to engage in mission, grow in faith and experience life in another culture while they share their gifts and talents to help people in need.

Some placements may fill positions as UnitingWorld nominated candidates  for AYAD projects developed by our global partners. Contact Kathy for more details and check out our website for a full list of placements available in 2010.

Placements for Retirees

Be part of our team of amazing retirees who share their lives in a global context.

We have many retired volunteers who spend between 3 months and 3 years serving God as mission volunteers with one of our many UCA global church partners.

YOU could be one of this team who really are “connecting communities for life!”

You do not need to be particularly brave, or adventurous. You just need to want to use the gifts and skills God has given you to help others.

Don’t believe us? Then meet Alan and Mabs Light

We like to call them our “Shining Lights!” Alan and Mabs are in their 70’s and they have found that God can use them in a unique way on a  small remote Tongan island. Alan was a teacher and Mabs a home maker. They cautiously started the journey of enquiring into volunteer possibilities with UnitingWorld Experience and have now changed their lives forever!

Alan and Mabs spend 3 months each winter in Tonga, helping at a small Primary school where Alan mentors teachers and Mabs works as a teacher’s assistant with Year 1. They are deeply loved by their Tongan community and they love them in return.

What a fantastic witness to God’s love for His world this is.
