Burma

YAP Burma began in 2004 and is based in Mae Sot, Thailand, near the border. YAP cannot be based in Burma due to restrictions by the Military Junta.

foodYAP Burma works with refugees from different ethnic groups along the Thai – Burma border and inside Karen State. YAP Burma has one loca coordinator who is of the Karen ethnic minority, and also an Australian citizen.

Additionally, two field coordinators travel inside Burma to run peace-building awareness initiatives, using the same methods that make YAP a success.

In Burma, the conflict between ethnic groups and the Burmese regime is very complicated. Some ethnic groups, particularly the Karens, have resorted to armed struggle for autonomy and self-determination. This struggle has been going on for 50 years.

YAP is responding by running peace building workshops and encouraging a peaceful resolution to ongoing conflict.
