In North East India the conflict has been ongoing for 50 years. Although many attempts have been made to control the situation different ethnic identities and economic crises restrict real peacemaking. Some fear the situation may worsen unless peace and tranquility come speedily to the region.

YAP was formed in this region of India in 2003 and attempts to be an influence in a number of states around Shillong.

Current YAP activity is on hold in the region (as of Nov 2010) due to unstable and dangerous political tensions.
