At times the challenges our world faces are overwhelming and it is difficult to know how to make a difference. Together we can ignite meaningful change. It can begin with just one child and expand to reach their entire community.
In the North Indian communities of Sarenga and Amritsar the villagers face an enormous range of challenges. High levels of unemployment, illiteracy and ill health have left most of the population in the grip of poverty.
Family responsibility and poor education facilities mean the majority of children go without schooling and grow up illiterate. Many more suffer needlessly from malnutrition, anemia and diarrhea. Without adequate nutrition and education, these children are destined for a future trapped in the poverty cycle.
Together, with your support, we can ignite measurable, grassroots change among these disadvantaged communities. Working side by side with the community and village leaders and in partnership with the Church of North India, UnitingWorld began development programs in Amritsar and Sarenga in 2008. While people’s needs are urgent, today there is hope and transformation has begun. The community itself is being empowered to also challenge the very system that entrenches the cycle of poverty.
With your help we can make a difference one child and one community at a time.
