UnitingWorld Partners – Relief & Development and Peacebuilding
By giving to UnitingWorld Partners – Relief & Development and Peacebuilding you can assist programs such as these:
Water & Sanitation
Access to a safe and reliable source of water and adequate sanitation facilities are essential factors in overcoming poverty. Clean water and sanitation reduces the prevalence of waterborne diseases and creates healthier communities.
Project Example: Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea and Muzarabani, Zimbabwe
Education & Vocational Training
Access to education for communities that are poor is central to breaking the cycle of poverty as it improves the chance of meaningful employment in the future. Training in specific vocational areas further builds employment options by imparting practical skills such as handicrafts, electronics, bookkeeping and more.
Project Examples: Early Childhood Education, Tonga; Sarenga, North India and Mwandi, Zambia
Economic Empowerment & Livelihood
People living in poverty have less than $1.25 per day to cover their family’s basic needs, restricting access to education, health care and other vital services. The economic empowerment and livelihood initiatives such as livestock schemes, crop diversification, roadside kiosks and other small ventures, enable families and communities greater access to income to build renewed futures.
Project Examples: West Timor and Epworth, Zimbabwe
Healthcare & Nutrition
Woman in Asia, Africa and the Pacific have as much as a 1:16 risk of dying during pregnancy or child-birth compared to a 1:4000 risk in a developed country. Malaria, HIV/AIDS and preventable blindness due to lack of access to quality health services is also highly prevalent in the region. Simple dietary and medical interventions can improve the health of women, children and whole communities.
Project examples: Vanuatu; Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea
Peacebuilding
Good development cannot happen without peace. The Young Ambassadors for Peace (YAP) program seeks to build a culture of peace in communities experiencing ongoing confl ict. Each YAP centre is supported by passionate local staff and volunteers who are trained to run effective peace building workshops. YAP’s peacebuilding paves the way for development and brings change to the systems that prevent community transformation.
Project Examples: Burma and Papua New Guinea
