Zambia Jordan Community School

edit6Zambia is one of the countries hardest hit by the HIV&AIDS epidemic, with a current estimated national prevalence of 16% for the adult population of 15-49 years. Such a high infection rate impacts greatly on every aspect of life in Zambia particularly education. A large number of primary school dropouts and leavers are obliged to assume family responsibilities to compensate for the loss of an adult family member, resulting in prolonged poverty.

The project provides children affected by HIV/AIDS with psychosocial support during the time family is ill and with the death of their carer. The children are also given care and shelter including meals, blankets, toiletries, school buildings and the presence of teachers to care for the children. The third component of the project supplies local teachers with a small incentive to continue teaching the children.
