As the island nation of Samoa begins the recovery effort from a devastating tsunami which claimed the lives of more than 100 people, UnitingWorld has launched a relief appeal for the Samoan people.

The 1.7 metre waves caused severe damage in low lying islands areas, sweeping away thousands of homes and leaving many people in grave need of food, shelter and medical attention. Many of those killed were children and with dozens more people missing, it is believed the death toll is likely to climb to more than 1000 people.

Working through our partners, the Samoan Methodist Church and the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa, we will address the immediate need for food, clothing and medical supplies as well as the long term impact of the tsunami.
