Right To Learn
Education is a human right that changes lives
We all know the power of knowledge and the privilege of quality education. But without investment in education, the future of those who are poor and marginalised is restricted and opportunities to improve their situation severely limited.
Education equips communities to challenge the structures that hold them in poverty and to take ownership of future development. Good quality education, that is relevant and accessible to all, can transform whole communities.
Today you can support our partner, the Church of North India, as they assist the communities of Sarenga, West Bengal in transforming their future through education and community development.
The CNI, together with UnitingWorld began the Community Development Program in Sarenga in 2008 to engage with communities and assist them in developing local and relevant approaches to community development. Emphasis is put on the fact that sustainable development needs the strong foundation of education, specifically at a grass-roots level.
The early learning centre’s supported by the project increase the quality of the education accessed by the students within the local schools and assists in raising the awareness of the importance of education in bringing about change.

Education can change the lives of children like Manjit*
Ten-year-old Manjit loves learning. He is a keen class four student and helps his classmates and friends at the coaching centre in his village. One day he hopes to be a headmaster so that he can teach other children in his village and enable them to build a better future.
Tarak*, Manjit’s father is a farmer who has begun to recognise the importance of education. He dropped out of school at an early age to help with the family farm, but not being able to read and write has been a significant disadvantage for him. Having had limited access to education has restricted opportunity in his own life and in providing for his family’s welfare.
Now he wants his youngest son to become a teacher and help their community grow stronger through the power of education; an opportunity and a right Manjit and all his community should have.
