Samoa Emergency Appeal

As the island nation of Samoa begins the recovery effort from a devastating tsunami which claimed the lives of more than 100 people, UnitingWorld has launched a relief appeal for the Samoan people.
The 1.7 metre waves caused severe damage in low lying islands areas, sweeping away thousands of homes and leaving many people in grave need of food, shelter and medical attention. Many of those killed were children and with dozens more people missing, it is believed the death toll is likely to climb to more than 1000 people.
Working through our partners, the Samoan Methodist Church and the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa, we will focus on restoring livelihoods (e.g. agricultural, livestock and fishing) and the rebuilding of homes and community centres.
