Blessing for the Fiji Eye Care Project

On Saturday 26 July UnitingWorld’s Rev Sef Carroll led the service of three special celebrations at the home of Mike and Ann Kumar, members of St Clair Uniting Church in Western Sydney. The special events were celebrated as part of the St Clair Uniting Church’s Hindi fellowship house service, which is held bimonthly in people’s homes.

Saturday was a service of thanksgiving for Mike & Ann’s 19th wedding anniversary, their son Aldrin’s third birthday and finally but not at all least, the blessing of the Fiji Eye Care Project team lead by Chris David and Mike Kumar.

This is the Fiji Eye Care Project’s 9th annual trip to Fiji. The project was founded by Chris David in 2005.  Since that time Chris has been organising a medical team of eye surgeons and nurses to perform cataract surgery at the Lautoka hospital on the western side of Fiji.  It is a partnership with UnitingWorld’s Relief and Development Unit. Last year 100 people received the gift of sight thanks to this project. This year the project is anticipating between 110-150 patients.

Sef offered this life-changing team the following blessing;

You are blessed: so then go out to be a blessing to others.

May God the creator watch your feet as you enter your place of service May the compassion of Christ make you present in the lives of those you meet in your mission May the discerning and joyful Spirit transform the community of which you will be part.

In the name of the Triune God: Creator, Redeemer and Spirit – you are blessed: go then to be a blessing.
